Executive Director Jennifer Carvalho has recently been appointed Executive Director after serving many years as a board member for the Skyway House. Jennifer is a graduate of California State University, Chico. Her career has been management focused through several fields. In addition to her work with the Skyway House, Jennifer is a past-president of the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce, past-chair of the Oroville Recreation Area Commission and current executive board member of the Oroville Economic Development Corporation. She resides in Paradise and considers herself a citizen of the region. She is passionate about recovery, her husband and son, and marathon running.
Director of Operations David Deichler has been working in the field of addiction treatment since 2002. In January of 2005 Mr. Deichler came to work for the Skyway House in the capacity of a residential counselor and over the years has had the opportunity to work in all aspects of our treatment programs including administration. This unique set of experiences has given Mr. Deichler a great understanding of the treatment we provide, the population we serve and a more in depth understanding of addiction and how it is negatively impacting the families and communities of Northern California.
Director of Treatment Services Edward Sprague is the Director of Treatment Services for the Skyway House and has worked in the addictions treatment field since 2003. He is certified through CAADAC as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II and holds a Clinical Supervisor Credential. Mr. Sprague has an Associate of Science degree in Alcohol and Drug Studies from Butte College. His job duties include oversight of residential and outpatient services as well as alcohol and drug free housing. Some of his responsibilities consist of program and professional staff development along with assuring that all aspects of programming remain compliant with the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs. Mr. Sprague has lived in Butte County with his family for close to twenty years.
Controller Loni Mendoza moved to Chico in 1984 to attend Chico State. She fell in love with the community and decided to raise her daughter and son in Chico. After being inspired by many beautiful, strong women in recovery, she returned to school, and in 2005, received her Bachelors of Science in Accounting from the University of Phoenix-Online Campus. She feels the online education has given her skills to work both collaboratively and independently and to reach out beyond the local community for new ideas and support. She is excited to be a part of such important work and looks forward to helping the Skyway House improve and grow for the betterment of those we serve.
Admissions Coordinator
Brad Long is the Admissions Coordinator of the Skyway House. His Bachelors degree is in Managment and he holds a Masters Degree in Ethics and Religion. His job duties include screening, intake, assessment, and referrals. In addition to his many responsiblities at the Skyway House, Mr. Long is the Spiritual Director for the Whispering Pines Chapel in Berry Creek, CA. Clients feel comfortable and safe with Brad during the intake process which makes him a great addition to our treatment team!
Court/Community Liaison David Burke has been working in the community and in the field of alcohol and drug treatment since 2002. Mr. Burke is a Certified Alcoholism and Other Drug Addictions Recovery Specialist Level II with the California Association of Addiction and Recovery Resources. Mr. Burke works in the community, courts and jails providing screening, assessment and treatment service plan development for individuals and families struggling with addiction. Over the years Mr. Burke has become very adept at working with other community resources in conjunction with the Skyway House to provide possible solutions to those suffering with the disease of addiction. Mr. Burke works closely with treatment courts and the criminal justice system to open doors to recovery. Mr. Burke says he "loves working with families and our community and is proud to work in recovery".

Men’s Residential Staff
Program Director Annette Friendshuh began working for the Skyway House in January of 2004 after proving her desire to help others by volunteering. Over the course of her employment Mrs. Friendshuh has demonstrated a great capacity for working with individuals struggling with addiction; she has worked in all aspects of our women’s services always assuring the highest standard of care while displaying true insight and empathy towards Skyway House participants. Mrs. Friendshuh possesses an Addiction Studies Certificate from Butte College and is a Certified Registered Addiction Specialist. She says she has chosen this field of work due to her personal desire to help other recovering individuals obtain long term sobriety. Now managing our men's facility, she will bring the same high quality of care to this part of the organization.
Lead Counselor Andy Engler has been working in the addiction treatment field in the Butte county area since 2004. He is currently a counselor at the Skyway House Men's residential treatment facility in Chico. Mr. Engler is a Certified Registered Addiction Specialist. He obtained his education through the Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors and his certification through the Breining Institute. He is currently enrolled in Butte College working towards his Associates degree in Behavioral and Social Sciences. Mr. Engler strives to be an example of someone living a life free from addiction and bondage. He is well respected by his family, friends and community.
Counselor Mike Smith has been working in the addiction treatment field for 6 years. He has worked for a variety of local treatment providers, including a position as Program Director for Specialized Inpatient Treatment. Mr. Smith was certified as an Addiction Specialist through CAARR in 2008 and is a graduate of the Alcohol and Drug Studies program at Butte College. Mr. Smith feels blessed to be afforded the opportunity to be of service to others.
Counselor Kirks passion for helping others stems from his personal story of recovery. Kirk grew up in Connecticut and moved to Chico in 2006. Since April of 2011 he has worked as a member of the support staff at the Skyway House and was promoted to a counselor in August 2011. Kirk is registered through CAADAC and holds an Associates Degree in Health and Behavioral Sciences. He is a graduate of the Addiction Studies Program at Butte College and plans to attain a Bachelors Degree in psychology at CA State University, Chico. Kirk's enthusiams makes him a great addition to the Skyway House. Through his own experiences, he hopes to show others that there is freedom from active addiction.

Women’s Residential Staff
Program Director Cathi Schmitz has been employed with the Skyway House since 2005. She has experience in men’s and women’s residential treatment and served as an Alcohol and Drug Free Housing Field Representative. Ms. Schmitz has consistently set the bar for providing high quality services to our participants and now holds the title of Program Director of our Women's Residential program. Ms. Schmitz is a Registered Addiction Specialist. Ms. Schmitz chose this line of work because she has a passion for supporting other addicts with their personal recovery.
Counselor Mary Clark has been with the Skyway House since 2004 and has worked in several bracnches of the organization, including women’s residential and men’s alcohol and drug free housing. Ms. Clark has an Alcohol and Drug Studies Certificate from Butte College, an A.S. Degree from Yuba College, and is currently working on her Bachelor’s Degree in social work at Chico State University. Ms. Clark is a certified counselor having obtained the Registered Addiction Specialist Certification from the Breining Institute. Ms. Clark says she enjoys working in this field because she understands the disease of addiction and knows that recovery works for those who are willing to take suggestions and accept change. Counselor Amanda Mayberry graduated from the Alcohol and Drug Studies at Butte College in Fall 2011. She started as an intern at Skyway House in August of 2011, working in Outpatient Services with Adolescents. Amanda was hired at Women’s Residential in November 2011. She is determined to attend Chico State University to attain a bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science. Amanda is a Registered Addiction Specialist through Breining Institute. Her dedication to her clients and her own personal experience regarding the dangers of addiction have prepared her for her job at Skyway House.

Outpatient Staff
Program Director As Program Director of Skyway House Outpatient Services Ms. Brown is responsible for the implementation of all outpatient programs and assuring a high standard for quality client care. Ms. Brown has been working for the Skyway House since February of 2005 and has been in the field of addiction treatment since 2000. She is a Certified Alcoholism and Other Drug Addictions Recovery Specialist; her training and work history have exposed her to many diverse populations and age groups. Ms. Browns insight combined with her professional experience gives her substantial knowledge of addiction and its devastating effects on individuals and the community as a whole.
Teen Program Coordinator Debora McRae is a Counselor and the Teen Program Coordinator at Skyway House. She has been working at Skyway House since June 2006 in Outpatient Services. She graduated from Butte College in 2005 with an Associate Degree in Addiction Studies and she is certified as a Registered Addiction Specialist. Ms. McRae has worked in the field of addiction and recovery since 2002. She has worked in Residential Treatment, Outpatient, and completed her Internship at Paradise High School. She works with many populations including adults and youth with substance abuse problems. Ms. McRae is a Butte County native and has been exposed to both addiction and recovery all throughout her life. Her passion for working with addicts and alcoholics comes from her personal history of substance abuse. She obtained her recovery as a teenager and feels she has true empathy for youth that are trying to obtain sobriety and the different struggles they have to overcome.
Group Facilitator Ralph Torres has been working at Skyway House since 2007. He holds a BA in Social Work from California State University, Chico. He is currently working on his one year Master of Arts in Social Work at CSU Chico. Mr. Torres is a Registered Addiction Specialist and is certified through the Breining Institute. Ralph started out as support staff, has been a counselor at our residential facility, and is now the Alcohol and Drug Free Housing Field Representative. Mr. Torres is also one of the group facilitators for our Outpatient Program. He is committed to helping those that struggle with addiction within the community to live healthy, meaningful, and productive lives.
